Danail Papazov: After about an year the trains between Plovdiv and the Turkish border will be possible to move with 160 km/h

After about an year the trains between Plovdiv and the Turkish border will be possible to move with 160 km/h. This is what the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Danail Papazov, said during today’s commencement of the construction works in the railway section Dimitrovgrad – Harmanli. According to him, the section between Plovdiv and Dimitrovgrad has already been completed, as well as the section between Svilengrad and the Turkish Border and up to the summer of 2014 the section between them shall also be upgraded.

“The railway projects are not less important than the road infrastructure and for this reason in the next programming period of the Operative Program “Transport” an emphasis is put mainly on this type of transport", said Minister Papazov.  According to him, the main target is until year 2020 Bulgaria to avail of entirely upgraded railway lines in the direction Dragoman – Sofia – Plovdiv – Svilengrad, which will ensure the possibility for the trains between Serbia and Turkey to move with 160 km/h. In parallel, it will be progressed the full rehabilitation of the railway line Plovdiv – Burgas.

The project ”Reconstruction and electrification of the railway section Dimitrovgrad - Harmanli” is worth
136 M BGN without VAT. The Contractor is TERNA SA and the time for its completion is 14 August 2014.

Minister Danail Papazov inspected also the upgraded line Plovdiv – Dimitrovgrad. The project was implemented under the pre-accession program ISPA and encompasses 67 km of railway line and 12 stations along the route.
